UOVO, the premier storage and services provider for art, fashion, and cultural artifacts, seeks a full-time Art Handler / Crater to join its dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate will be a team player, have experience working in art storage and collection management experience and will be comfortable fabricating crates and packing and moving a wide range of art objects. The Art Handler / Crater will report to the Crate Shop Manager.
Core Responsibilities:
With oversight from the Crate Manager, responsible for the day-to-day fabrication of all crates in South San Francisco, ensuring the highest level of client satisfaction, safety, and quality of work.
Ensure all work is executed to meet deadlines; proactively communicating to the Crate Manager when an issue is encountered
Maintain a safe working environment in the shop and adhere to established safety rules and regulations, meeting OSHA standards for woodworking and woodworking machinery
Calculate, draw and create cut sheets that can be followed for all products produced
Clean and organize the crate shop on a daily basis, ethically discarding or disposing of scrap wood and wood dust regularly
Pack artworks for transportation and storage
Maintain all concierge storage locations within the warehouse ensuring efficient and safe storage of all property
Scan property to ensure accurate inventory locations are always maintained
Proper handling and packing of art objects, fragile and artistic material, and antique, high-end furniture using the appropriate methods and materials.
Preparation of condition checks and condition reports, as needed
Breaking down crates, trash and other materials as needed
Adhere to all safety requirements as outlined by Manager
Provide on-site and internal warehouse support when required
When needed, Install/De-install artworks in UOVO viewing rooms in support of Warehouse team.
Other tasks as assigned by Manager
Qualifications & Skills:
Ability to read a tape measure and strong grasp of fractional math
Team Player who can work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Comfortable in a results-driven workplace
Must be proficient in the safe use of hand tools, saws and other woodworking tools and machinery (cabinet saw, compound mitre saw, pneumatic staple gun, random orbital sander, glue gun, drill gun, routers, etc).
Experience handling 2D and 3D artworks
Excellent customer service as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of art handling best practices, including packing, framing, wrapping, installations, and crating
Experience with a variety of fine art mediums and packing materials
Ability to push and pull 150 pounds on a dolly or cart, as well as 50 pounds without mechanical aid
Ability to carry 40 pounds of varying size and shape up to a distance of 90 feet
Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach overhead
Ability to be exposed to outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow
Ability to safely operate a forklift
Familiarity with the use of hand trucks, pallet jacks, pry lever bars, dollies and other warehouse equipment
